I am a proud graduate of Durango High School. I went on to Fort Lewis College for a B.S. in Biology and to Adams State College for a M.A. in Secondary Science Education. I have served in a number of different administrative positions including a Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Principal, as well as a School District Superintendent. I have been fortunate to have been given opportunities to visit and serve in a variety of regions around the world, and there is absolutely no place as beautiful, unique, and interesting as Durango!
In my first 90 days in office, I will address School Board policies which have a root-cause negative effect on student achievement. Those policies are currently located in the 9R Board's Operational Expectations and Results Policies. These policies need to be addressed due to their potentially negative impact on student achievement. I feel any policy, practice, or program which at its heart, creates division rather than unity, or which elevates one group of people above another needs to be eliminated immediately.
I promise to listen to parent and community concerns and to bring those issues to the Board and Superintendent with fidelity. I am a team-builder, a collaborator who seeks to build consensus, strengthen partnerships and engage others in the critical work of preparing our children for their futures as well as for the future of Durango and La Plata County. We must put our kids first! They are our most precious commodity, and it is our primary obligation to ensure that we provide them the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to safeguard our freedom, sovereignty, and American Exceptionalism.
